The Washoe Club is the most haunted building in Virginia City, according to local investigators. The lot is likely the best place to capture a ghostly voice without paying for a tour or having to ask for permission to do your own investigation. The story goes that there were several murders and suicides reported in the hotel, Oberding said. “It was what was called the ‘Suicide Room.’” “When that burned down, there was only one room left standing,” she said. Some believe a man was shot in the hotel, who is supposedly heard at night, Oberding said. The hotel was never rebuilt following the Comstock’s decline. The International Hotel was built two years later and burned in December 1914. A second hotel was built and then destroyed in the “Great Fire” of 1875-which ravaged most of the town. The first hotel was built in 1860 and was dismantled three years later. This is an easy spot if you want to do your own paranormal investigation. But this lot, which sits adjacent to the Silver Queen, saw three hotels destroyed through the years. It always surprises me when you come across a little strip of City out in the middle of nowhere.īefore we start in on ghosts, let’s talk history. Part of our route from Reno - The road up to Virginia City seemed a heck of a lot more twistier than this map shows! It is a very twisty and steep drive up from the main freeway to the outskirts of Virginia City. ![]() Millions of dollars were being made when the town was booming and it was said that there was gold in every hill around. In addition to gold mines, Virginia City was also famous for its silver mines. Virginia City sits at an elevation of 6,220 and, like Bodie, is also an old mining town.
